Kannada Sahitya Sammelana is a summit held yearly to encourage, improve, preserve, our third oldest original language in the world and prestigious regional language, Kannada. Ideally this began as a platform for the literary crowns to present their work. Preserve, encourage were alarming words used in a media, they might be right as Kannada speaking people are much influenced by English and it is hard for me to find people speaking strictly in Kannada language. I had heard about this summit just in my school day text books. This year I had an opportunity to realize much because of my friend, colleague GURU who had plans to go to Chitradurga, where the summit was held, which is about 200 KMS from Bangalore. It is routine to visit SanFrancisco every visit of mine to Bay Area. This time i was accompanied by my colleague. We had only two things Golden Gate and Wax Museum, rest was void. We had seen Caltrain going to SFO during our last trip to STANFORD, PaloAlto. As I was busy yesterday, I had asked my colleague to look into the travel details. Anyhow we are lazy enough. We headed in light rail to reach MountView Station. We took Caltrain to SFO from Mountain View. We got down at a station ahead of SFO, which is 22nd Street. I wonder what made us to get down there. We noticed some light rail moving around. Now we had no idea as how to reach either of our destiny. Wax Museum was close to Fisherman's Wharf, though I had been there it was still a mystery place. We reached 23rd street to catch some light rail. We came to know that light rail is free of cost until 2pm. Hurray we got into some light rail service and got down at Embarcadero station. With some help we came to know that we have to get F train to reach Fisherman's Wharf. We are nothing more than Monkey's, we got into T train. Got down at Powell Station. Now it was mess we were completely lost. It was already 12:30pm and we had not even started. With some help here and there we got a F train, which dropped right in front of Wax Museum.
Wax Museum you find all waxed dignitaries, nobles, actors, religion. Mahatma Gandhi too was standing somewhere in between. I had a great photo session with all of them. Though overall not a good rating. It is just another Entertainment complex. We are out on the Wharf. Far away we could see Alcatraz. Alcatraz is former lighthouse, recently it has turned out to be recreation area, an Island in Pacific Ocean. The beachside is really beautiful. It is Sunday and filled with tourist. Tourists from all over the world. Different variety of human species :). We had lot of photo session here and there. Princess Dawn was standing alone in water. She was amazing. Princess Dawn is a Ship.
All of a sudden my colleague started saying we have to visit COIT tower. It was not there in our schedule. I was reluctant to go. It was just visible to our sight but no idea as how to reach it. With some hazzles between us, we started to walk with a map on hand. We followed the herd. We took steps to climb the hill. Huh...it was too tiring. We reached the top. The tower was filled with tourists. There was a overflowing queue at the tower. We could not make to the tip of the tower. We could almost cover entire SFO from the top. I pointed my colleague golden gate bridge and to return back. But he was reluctant. We started to our next destination the Golden Gate Bridge. We climbed down the hill. It was 3pm. Lunch Time, found DELI, had a vegie burger. Again I was attacked by pollens, my skin had started bulbing. It got down by the time I had finished the burger.
Next catch MUNI to Golden Gate. We had to switch three buses 10, 30, and 28 to reach Golden. It was in Bus 30 we met a weired Irish guy with skirt. I would better have a separate blog of strangers in Foreign land. He guided pretty well to reach Golden Gate with lotz of embarasment in the bus. It is too cold out there over golden bridge. I wonder what makes the temperature sink to such low. First thing I donno why they call it Golden Bridge. But for sure it is wonderful. With strong windy breeze, altitude, chillness and magnitude of monstrous bridge, it is amazing. It is 5:30pm we planned to head back to SanJose. Unfortunately we met the same Irish guy in the bus. This time he misguided us. We took a bus in the wrong direction. He too was misguided. We had asked the driver, it was pretty hard to make out what did he speak, we just boarded the bus. Especially it is very difficult to follow English spoken by a spanish person. Espanol is complicated :). With some help we dropped at a station, to catch another bus.
Now we realized we need not have to buy tickets every bus we board. We had transfer tickets, which are valid for certain amount of time. Huh...such a loss. We got into bus no 38. I had no idea as to where to get down. I kept pouring through the map. Lady sitting asked me "Do you know where you need to get down?". I frankly said no. She was kind enough to give me all the details to reach Caltrain Station. We got down at 3rd Street. We walked down to 4th street, where we boarded Bus No. 30. Finally we were dropped at Caltrain SFO station at 6:30pm. We had train at 7pm.
I reached back in SanJose at 9pm. It was really tiring.
Overall a Happy Weekend.
